What to Wear in the Hospital When You Have Your Baby
Whether you have a planned C-Section or are planning for a natural delivery, be prepared with your hospital bag packed well ahead of time. Here are some essentials to help personalize your hospital stay and make the job of having a baby away from home more comfortable:
Pack Granny Panties
If you are having a C-Section, your incision will be right at the bikini line, which is precisely where most low cut panties elastic bands will hit. You don't want to irritate a scar with rubbing at this incision point or cause you any pain. High rise panties totally miss this point and will not irritate your bandaged incision. Even with a vaginal delivery, you will have much more comfort in a high rise roomy panty that can hold big pads, which btw, is what you will be living in for at least the first few days as your uterus contracts and you heal from birth.
Bring Your Own Hospital Gown
1 in the Oven has some wonderful cotton Hospital Gowns in both short and long sleeve. These gowns are far more flattering than the ones you get at the hospital and have built in slits in the front pleats for nursing access. They come in some beautiful pastel shades and now in organic cotton as well.
If you want a more classic Delivery Gown, but not with the boring washed out pattern you get at the hospital, take a look at the Dear Johnnies collection. Their Delivery gowns are all made of 100% cotton and come in an array of beautiful patterns which differ by name. They are also sized as S/M and L/XL which helps in attaining a better fit than the one size fits all you get at the hospital. These gowns are designed to be worn during surgery, labor delivery and outpatient treatment. They also have snaps along the shoulders which make for easy nursing access without opening in the pleats which is nice when you are not nursing and don't wont to worry about "popping out" which is often a problem with the typical hospital gown.
Bring a Wrap Robe
Whether it is summer or winter, hospitals can be chilly. If you are planning on staying a few days, as most of us are required to do following birthing a child, you may want to bring a robe to knock the chill off. Robes are great to throw on over your hospital gown if want to pace the hallways or greet visitors in your room. You will feel far better and more in control in your own robe then huddling in hospital blankets. You will also look 100% better for your first photos with your newborn. Wrap robes work the best, particularly maternity wrap robes, as you can adjust the size to what fits the best and is most comfortable. Also, wrap robes are perfect for discreetly and comfortably nursing your baby. Check out Bellabumbum's selection of 100% cotton maternity robes.
Bring Some Music
Unfortunately the business of having babies is not a quick event for most of us, particularly if it is your first child. Make your stay more enjoyable and help pass the time (and the pain) with your personal selection of music. Chances are your mood may shift dramatically throughout the hours that you labor, so pack a variety of DVDs that vary from slow to faster beat. You will not be in the mood to wear a headset or ear phones, so make sure you bring a regular DVD player. Also pack music that you may enjoy postpartum as you will probably be at the hospital for a few days and will most likely quickly bore of the limited channels available on hospital room TVs. You may want to pack some soothing music that your baby will enjoy as well and even to help him (and you) sleep.
Bring Your Own Pillow and Boppy
Hospitals are not in short supply of pillows but no pillow is quite as good as your own pillow and it is the surest way for you to get quality rest. Also bring a couple of pillow cases as the hospital's will probably not fit right and you may need to change your pillow case while you are there as postpartum women are prone to night sweats during the early weeks. If you plan to nurse your baby, remember to bring a boppy as this rounded nursing aid can greatly help your baby's nursing positioning and your personal comfort when you are trying to establish a latch in those first days of nursing.
Coming prepared to the hospital with your own things makes delivery and recovery that much easier and your whole birthing experience all the more personal. Not everyone can have a home birth, but you may as well allow yourself the comforts of home during your stay in the hospital.

Preparing For Twins - The Top 10 Must Have Products For Twin Mothers
Preparing for twins can be a very exciting yet stressful and time-consuming process. As a twin mother myself, I can assure you that the less stress you have during pregnancy, the happier you will be and the healthier your children will be. I hope this article provides answers for expecting twin mothers on what supplies to have before the birth of their babies.
If you are fortunate like myself, your family and friends, will be overly generous with their baby shower gifts. I was amazed by the amount of gifts I received at my shower. Not only did I get virtually everything I needed for the infant stage, I received a great amount of stuff for the toddler stage as well. It is best to register for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING you will need and don't feel bad putting big ticket items on the registry. Some things you will need two of, other things you will not.
The following is a list of the 10 most important things a twin mother will need.
Twin Stroller- I use my stroller everywhere I go and could not imagine life without it. I would recommend that you get one that allows you to put both car seats in it. The one I use has this feature and it makes loading and unloading the twins a breeze. Another thing to consider is the size and compact ability of the stroller. The one I use fits perfectly in my hatchback and folds and unfolds very quickly. This makes life a lot easier and is definitely something to consider.
Car Seats-You are going to need these installed and tested before they will allow you to take your babies home. As I mentioned about the stroller, I highly recommend you get car seats that can be used with your stroller. The ones I have easily pop out of my backseat and I can have the twins loaded in the stroller in under a minute-- many times without waking them up. You will also need the 3 -in-1 car seats when your twins out grow their infant seats. Even though these will not be used until your twins are a year old, I still highly recommend you register for these items or purchase them ahead of time!
Twin Crib/Cribs-As you will learn, sleep is the most important thing for your twin babies. Investing in a quality twin crib or two single cribs will be the best decision you can make. You will also want to make sure you have a quality mattress, mattress cover, and crib cushions. I also suggest buying a book about healthy sleeping habits for twins! You will thank me later; I promise!
Swings-At first I just had one, but after realizing how much the twins enjoyed it, I went out and got another one. When purchasing a swing you will want to avoid buying the cheap models as most of them are not as sturdy and make a great deal of noise. Another thing to consider is whether or not they run on batteries or electric. The first swing I got ran on DD batteries and replacing them can get costly. When I purchased the second swing I made sure to get one that ran on electric.
Rocking Chair/Gliders-You will be using a rocking chair/glider a lot and it is nice to have two, one for the nursery and one for a room you spend a great deal of time in such as the living room. I spend many hours a day in my gliders and the quality time with the babies is priceless.
Breast Pump- Nursing twins is definitely not out of the question. If you do choose this option, trust me you will be spending a ton of time breastfeeding and having the right equipment is essential. There are many breast pumps on the market, so make sure you do your research before purchasing. You will also need a twin-nursing pillow that will allow you to nurse both babies at the same time, which does become very necessary unless you want to spend your ENTIRE day feeding.
Diaper Bag-Your Diaper Bag will go with you everywhere you go. Choose one that fits under your stroller and offers adequate room for everything you will need. There are many diaper bags on the market and they come in a variety of different sizes and styles. The one I have came with a matching bottle cooler and binkie holder.
High Chairs--You will need High Chairs when your twins are 4-6 months in age. There are a ton of High Chairs on the market and choosing the best one really depends on the room you will be doing your feeding in. Just make sure the ones you choose are sturdy and provide adequate comfort for the twins.
Boppy Pillows--Highly popular for all babies and I use mine in so many ways I don't know what I would do without them. I would recommend getting an extra set so that you do not have to drag them from room to room. My twins love taking naps and eating in their bobby pillows.
Diapers--As a twin mother you will burn through 6,000+ diapers your first year. You are going to want to try a few different types until you determine which ones the twins prefer. Once you find the brand that works best---BUY ONLINE and you will save a ton of money, time and frustration.
I know I had a ton of questions when I was expecting twins so please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns you may have. I am a member in many online twin forums and have many twin mother friends with great advice and encouragement.

The Lowdown on Playmats and Play Gyms
Lying on their backs and batting at toys helps babies develop eye-hand coordination and visual perception. Lying on their tummies and pushing up against the ground helps babies gain head-and-neck control and prepares them for crawling. The longer babies are happy playing by themselves on the ground, the more they develop their attention span and become comfortable with being independent.
Chances are that you're not going to just dump your baby on the rug, though. You'll want to put some sort of blanket or quilt down first, especially if you are a new parent who sees superbugs lurking behind every speck of dust. You'll probably want to purchase some sort of playmat or play gym, and possibly even more than one.
Obviously, you can use any blanket or quilt under your baby, but there are playmats made of colorful fabrics that are designed specifically for floor play. Some simple ones are Boppy's Tummy Play Play Pads, which are basically just baby-sized mats with a few toys attached to one end and a small Boppy pillow sewn on its surface so you can prop your baby up on his or her tummy. The Infantino Surfboard Tummy Time Mat and I-Play Tummy Time Prop and Play are constructed in a similar way.
Other playmats are slightly more complicated. For example, Haba's Splish Splash Playmat has a center panel you can fill with water. Then your baby can press the panel to see the fish inside float around. Simple cloth houses, trees, and a lighthouse are sewn around the side of this playmat for your baby to look at and touch. One Step Ahead offers a Rainforest Fabric Pat Mat with all sorts of sights, sounds, and textures to examine, plus a water mat similar to the one on the Haba Splish Splash Playmat. Furthermore, this Pat Mat has a waterproof bottom, so it can be used outdoors on the ground.
To select the best playmat or play gym for your baby, just observe him or her at play and think about what he or she likes to do. Does your baby grab for things, smile at music, or like pushing buttons? Take these observations into account and then get shopping!
